Deb writes: “Kathryn did an excellent job ahead of time to ask us how we perceived our skill set - as a beginner, intermediate etc. and how or when we spent time doing art. In addressing each of our different learning styles, I felt she covered the visual - sensory world with the left brain-logical, rational mind well. It's a tricky thing to find that balance.
For too long my creative side has lain dormant. I really loved the studio environment - for the setting and the exposure to the amazing supply of materials. It felt easy, relaxed and friendly. Kathryn of course led the way with that by modeling through direct example that as an artist one develops trust and when it isn't what you want, draw or paint over it. I like that. But you have to see it to believe it. I left with great confidence to push on and play. More play is what I desire. I plan soon to set up a dedicated area so I can do just that.” Attended Drawing and Watercolor class
Will writes: “I greatly enjoyed the classes I attended with Kathryn Field in her Sandwich studio. The studio is spacious, with plenty of table space and super lighting. Kathryn shared any materials we might need or had forgotten to bring, and was open to exploring new techniques and areas we students might suggest (or stumble across!)
As a teacher, Kathryn has years of experience in a huge range of media and techniques, and was skilled at guiding us forward according to our ability, opening new ways of seeing and representation.
When I stepped back from my watercolor portrait work, I stood amazed at the likeness of my granddaughter and the life in her eyes!” Attended 2 sessions of Exploratory Drawing class and 2 day workshop: Large Scale Portraits in Watercolor
Carla writes: “The classes have been inspiring beyond all expectations. Spending time in the studio with Kathryn and my fellow classmates is a pleasure - quiet, focused work happily cohabiting with friendly, supportive chatter and respectful interest and curiosity about each other’s efforts. The whole experience is a breath of fresh air and a break each week to focus on using another part of my brain that has been infrequently exercised in recent years.
Aside from all of that, I see that I can still learn how to do something new and different, bring out latent skills and developing new ones. I look at the world with a fresh perspective and find myself drawn once again to reading art reviews and picking up art books, something I haven't made time for or been driven to do in decades.” Attended 2 sessions of Exploratory Drawing class
Jean writes: “Before taking Kathryn Field's watercolor class, I had not picked up a paintbrush in several years, discouraged by my first attempts at the medium. Kathryn unblocked me. An experienced and enthusiastic teacher, she has an uncanny ability to determine each student's strengths and needs. Her confidence in what they can accomplish is contagious—it becomes their confidence. Thank you, Kathryn!” Attended Drawing and Watercolor class and joins the Exploratory Drawing class when possible
Sara writes: “I had a wonderful time taking a watercolor and mixed media class from Kathryn. Her studio is a beautiful, well lit, and relaxing place with many supplies to choose from. It had been over 10 years since I tried to experiment with watercolors. The class had a variety of skill levels and Kathryn was able to make us all feel comfortable enough to stretch beyond our current skill levels. Kathryn provided demonstrations and exercises in perspective, color, form, and more that really pushed me to think and made me feel more confident in placing pencil or brush to paper. Kathryn's feedback was very helpful to open my eyes to a more artistic level of thinking and left me enjoying watercolor and feeling excited about doing more.” Attended Drawing and Watercolor class
